Name: Gerben DeJong, PhD
Title: Director, CPS & Senior Fellow
Gerben DeJong, PhD is a Senior Fellow and Director of the Center for Post-acute Studies at the National Rehabilitation Hospital (NRH) in Washington, DC. Prior to rejoining NRH in late 2004, Dr. DeJong served a 2-year stint with the University of Florida as a professor in the Department of Health Services Research, Management & Policy. Previously until 2001, Dr. DeJong served for 16 years (1985-2001) as the Director of Research for the National Rehabilitation Hospital (NRH) in Washington, DC and as the Founding Director of hospital's Center for Health & Disability Research. He concurrently served as a professor (courtesy appointment) in the Department of Family Medicine at Georgetown University (1987-2002). Dr. DeJong is the author or co-author of more than 200 papers on health, income maintenance, disability, and post-acute rehabilitation. He has been a student of the American post-acute health care system particularly its growth, development, and consolidation across the various post-acute industries. Dr. DeJong testifies regularly before Congress and federal agencies on health care and disability income issues. He was President of the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine (2006-07). In 1985, he received the Licht Award for Excellence in Scientific Writing from the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine and, in 1998, he received the organization's highest award, the Gold Key Award. In 1984, he was a Fulbright Scholar in the Netherlands serving with the research staff of the Social Security Council. Dr. DeJong received his PhD in public policy studies from Brandeis University in 1980.

Name: Wenqiang Tian, PhD
Title: Senior Research Associate
Wen Tian, PhD is currently a senior research associate with the Center for Post-acute Studies at the National Rehabilitation Hospital. He earned his MD degree in 1998, MS degree in Biostatistics and Epidemiology in 2001, and Ph.D. degree in health services research in 2006. He previously served as a pediatrician in Zhengzhou, China, the program evaluator in the Chinese CDC, the coordinator in Commission for Public Health Insurance, Shanghai Municipal Government, and the researcher in Virginia Commonwealth University since 1998. His research interests include access, utilization and outcomes of health care in hospitals and post-acute care facilities, health insurance issues, and health policy.

Name: Jean Hsieh, PhD
Title: Senior Research Associate
Jean Hsieh, PhD is Senior Research Associate with the Center for Post-acute Studies at the National Rehabilitation Hospital, Washington, DC. She received her doctoral degree from Johns Hopkins University in Epidemiology of Mental Disorders with a focus on cognitive aging and dementia related topics. Dr. Hsieh also holds an Occupational Therapy background. She was trained in Taiwan and received her Master of Arts from Tufts University with the area of interest being Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Group Dynamics. Dr. Hsieh was recently nominated by the Gerontological Society of America, USA for the Student Research Award (dissertation level). Dr. Hsieh has worked in NRH since September 2006, after she completed her post-doctoral training known as the Proxmire fellow in a not-for-profit research institute, affiliated with Johns Hopkins University, on issues related to caring for people with Alzheimer's disease and other types of dementia.

Name: Koen Putman, PhD
Title: Senior Research Associate
Koen Putman, PhD is currently a Senior Research Associate at the National Rehabilitation Hospital (NRH) in Washington, DC. In 2005, he was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship and a B.A.E.F. Fellowship to come to the United States to study international comparisons in the organisation of stroke rehabilitation programs. Prior to coming to the U.S., Dr. Putman received his Masters degree in Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Sciences (1993) and his postgraduate degree in Neurorehabilitation (1994) at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven. Dr. Putman went on to obtain his MSc in Medical Sociology and Health Sciences from the Vrije Universiteit in Belgium (1998), and a postgraduate degree in Management (1999). In 2006, he completed his PhD in Medical Sociology and Health Sciences on organizational questions in stroke rehabilitation.
